2022-06-08:
After almost 20 years in Chemistry, Christoph’s scientific journey culminates in a full professorship (“Electrochemical Energy Conversion”) at Montan University Leoben.
The first step of this journey was taken in 2007 when Christoph achieved his master’s degree in chemistry in Innsbruck. Then, he worked on his PhD as Max Planck fellow – jointly between the Fritz-Haber-Institute in Berlin and the University of Innsbruck (supervised by Bernhard Klötzer and Robert Schlögl) – which he finished in 2011.
After stays as postdoctoral researcher in Berkeley, CA (as Erwin Schrödinger Fellow) and Innsbruck (as Senior Post Doc), he came to the TU Wien in 2013 where he was in charge of the model catalysis group and started his Habilitation on “Model Catalysis: Bridging the Gap from UHV to Atmospheric Pressure by in situ Synchrotron Studies”. After finishing that in 2019, he became Assistant Professor in 2020 and Associate Professor in 2021.
In 2017, he was awarded an ERC Starting Grant (TUCAS), the follow-up proof-of-concept grant of which (TUCAS-CO2) was awarded last year. Also in 2021, Christoph joined the SFB TACO as co-PI.
This October, Christoph will move his group to Styria and become „Professor for Electrochemical Energy Conversion“ and head of the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Montan University Leoben. There, he will continue his work on studying and designing novel oxide-based catalysts (e.g. perovskites) for CO2 conversion and „Power-to-X“ applications. Furthermore, he will expand his work on combining heterogeneous catalysis and electrochemistry for greenhouse gas utilization.

Christoph contributed synchrotron measurements performed at DESY Hamburg and provided invaluable expertise on CuZn systems.
Congratulations to Christoph and all authors!

2022-04-01:
Sadly, after last year’s shrinkage-connected lab accident, we have to report another incident. Hedda, our resident data sorceress and expert in all things data evaluation related, got lost during her most recent expedition into the wild and untamed data forest. This is the last image she sent before all communication went dark.
Currently, we are setting up a rescue party of brave data scientists who are not afraid to venture into that dangerous and oftentimes unpleasant place to find and save Hedda.

2021-04-01:
After a freak lab accident that shrunk Florian to atomic size (luckily he was wearing his protective goggles), we now can at least present the very first selfie taken on the surface of a catalyst. Communication is difficult, as the mobile reception is very bad, so we do not know much, however, we assume that the objects behind Flo are exsolved particles. And a step edge is visible far in the back as well.
Aside from being smaller than usual, Flo is fine and we are working tirelessly to undo the shrinkage.
